STREET DANCE CATEGORIES

(One qualifying competition in the East and one in the West)
HIP HOP, BREAK DANCE, POP & LOCK (ELECTRIC)

HIP HOP - Solo Male, Sole Female, Duo/Couple (Battle Style Competition)

  1. Dancer use organizers music
  2. Length of Exhibition - 1 minute
  3. Temp: 26-30 bars per minute
  4. Characteristics and Movements: Hip Hop includes different new dance styles such as Hype Dance, New-Jack Swing, Jamming, etc. creative elements such as stops, jokes, flashes, swift movements etc. Some Pop & Lock (Electric)
  5. Movements can be performed but should not dominate. Hip Hop is mostly danced on the 8th notes with a typical bounce, or jumping action
  6. Acrobatic Movements - Permited (except childrens divisions) including those typical of Break Dance but should not control/dominate the performance
  7. Lifts - Not Permited
  8. Duo- Routine should consist of choreography with interaction between both partners, follow the leader, shoadow and mirror design as well as patterns and dancing the same steps. A MIXTURE OF ALL POSSIBILITIES IS IMPORTANT.

SMALL GROUP: (Battle Style Competition)

  1. Length of Exhibition - 2 minutes
  2. Use organizers music
  3. Dancers of each group dance together
  4. Lifts not permitted in children's categories
  5. Stage Props - Not allowed

FORMATION - One formation at a time

  1. Formations dance to their own music
  2. Length of Exhibition: 2:30 minutes to 4:00 minutes
  3. Tempo - No restrictions
  4. No lifts in Children's categories permitted
  5. Music: Typical Hip Hop Music, However, listen carefully to any lyrics and make sure it is appropriate

BREAK DANCE

  1. No Children's Division
  2. Final Round -Judged in "Battle" format
  3. Music: Small groups may use their own music in first round. Organizers music in final round
  4. Time Limit (Small Groups 2.5 - 4:00 minutes), Formations: 3:30-4:00 minutes (Own music)
  5. Solos, duos - Use Organizers Music
  6. TYPICAL BREAK DANCE ELEMENTS
  7. Lifts not permitted

All typical elements of Break Dance should be performed - Styles, Pop Locking, Power Moves, Electric Boogie
Acrobatic movements are allowed but should not dominate the performance

Each group of competitors begins with a one-minute performance dancing together in each round. They then dance three, two or one by one during their one-minute performance. Each group will then dance a final round together in each round. Both opening and final minutes are to give the judges an opportunity to compare dancers. To avoid any risk of injuries judges shall walk around the competition floor in opening and final presentations.

POP & LOCK (ELECTRIC)

  1. MINUTE FIRST ROUNDS, 1 ½ MINUTES IN THE FINAL ROUND
  2. TYPICAL MOVEMENTS: Sharp electric movements that flow into waves, isolations, robot, pantomime elements, popping, animation, electric shock, walking, puppet, ticking, locking etc. It is important to show several different techniques and movements
